It is an achingly frank record of one man’s spiritual journey through the Beat poetry scene of 1960s Berkeley, California, to Islam and Sufism from the early 1970s on. It also includes an Introduction by Abdul-Rehman Malik, a Biography by Medina Tenour Whiteman, recollections by his daughter Salihah Moore, and numerous hand-drawn illustrations by family and friends.

Abdal-Hayy was awarded several Nazim Hikmet prizes and was named one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims in 2013 and 2014. He passed away in 2016 (rahimAllah).
